2023 Chevrolet Colorado Towing Capacity
Updated 2023 Colorado with Improved Towing Capabilities
The updated 2023 Chevrolet Colorado is bringing an exciting collection of new performance features for drivers who need a daily driver, a work truck, or a toy-hauling off-road plaything. When the 2023 Colorado arrives on our lot near Sagamore Hills in January 2023, car shoppers will be able to see the four unique trims, three chassis stances, and new rugged styling.
Three Specially-Tuned Engine Choices
The 2023 Chevy Colorado engine is a turbocharged 2.7-liter inline four-cylinder with standard, Plus, and High-Output tuning. The standard engine comes in the Work Truck (WT) and LT trims. This engine delivers 237 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque to tow 3,500 pounds.
The 2.7L Turbo Plus engine comes standard in the Z71 and Trail Boss trim. Drivers can add it to the Wt and LT. The Turbo Plus engine has 310 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque so it can tow 7,700 pounds. The 2022 model year with a V6 engine maxed out at 7,000 pounds towing capacity.
The Colorado ZR2 trim comes standard with a 2.7-liter Turbo High-Output engine with 7,700 pounds of towing capacity. It has 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque.
All trim levels on this midsize truck come with a second-generation eight-speed automatic transmission, specially designed for off-road low-speed situations and smooth shifting for daily driving.
Enhancing Performance and Capability
Buyers who choose the 2023 Chevy Colorado will notice differences in the exterior appearance of the various trims. The WT, LT, and Z71 trims have a standard chassis for comfortable daily driving on pavement. The Trail Boss trim has a two-inch factory lift and ultra-wide stance. The ZR2 has a three-inch factory lift for additional ground clearance and a wide stance.
Chevrolet added a drive-mode knob to the center console. The five drive modes include Normal, Tow/Haul, Off-Road, Terrain, and Baja. The Tow/Haul mode changes the shifting points and throttle responses to maximize towing and fuel economy.
The Off-Road mode makes driving on dirt more efficient, while the Terrain mode helps the Colorado with rock crawling at low speeds. The Baja mode is ideal for running on sand.
Drivers who want even more prowess on sand can add the Desert Boss Package to the ZR2 trim. This optional equipment package adds 17-inch Beadlock-capable wheels to the 33-inch tires, an off-road bumper with a brush guard, a sports bar, a roof-mounted light bar, and an underbody camera. It also adds Desert Boss decals and emblems.
